The investigation into the suicide case of ADGP Puran Kumar has taken a significant turn. Chandigarh Police has added a more stringent provision under Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST Act to the FIR registered by the officer’s wife, Amneet P. Kumar. This section carries a punishment of life imprisonment, unlike the earlier clause, which had a maximum sentence of five years.
This addition follows a fresh complaint filed by Amneet demanding the inclusion of harsher charges to ensure a thorough and serious probe. The newly added section specifically addresses offenses committed against individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes based on caste discrimination, particularly when the crime results in severe bodily harm or death.
Police sources indicate that the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be incorporated based on the post-mortem report and findings from the Special Investigation Team (SIT). This step highlights the increasing gravity of the case and signals a firm commitment to bringing the culprits to justice.
Currently, the case remains high-profile, and more details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses, potentially influencing the course of the investigation significantly.
