Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell is aiming to make a comeback in the final three T20 internationals against India after undergoing wrist surgery. The 36-year-old all-rounder suffered a right wrist injury during a net session in Mount Maunganui, ahead of the T20 series against New Zealand, when a shot from teammate Mitchell Owen struck him.
Due to the injury, Maxwell has been ruled out of the first two matches of the T20 series against India, scheduled for October 29 and 31. Speaking to the media, Maxwell said, "Having surgery last week has given me a real chance to be fit for the latter part of the India series. I’m focusing on recovering as quickly as possible."
He added that if the recovery doesn’t go as planned, his focus will shift entirely to preparing for the Big Bash League (BBL), where he will lead the Melbourne Stars. His cast was removed on Wednesday, and he has now started wearing a protective plastic splint while regaining wrist mobility.
When asked about his future in international T20s, Maxwell said, "I’m not looking too far ahead. Right now, I’m just focused on the opening round of the BBL."
Maxwell also expressed excitement over Indian spinner R. Ashwin joining the BBL. Ashwin, who signed with Sydney Thunder, will be the first Indian to play an entire BBL season. Maxwell called it a major boost for the league and a valuable learning opportunity for young Australian players.
