India Drops to 85th in 2025 Henley Passport Index, Access to 57 Nations

India’s position in the Henley Passport Index 2025 has slipped to 85th place, down from 80th last year. Despite the drop, Indian passport holders can still travel to 57 countries without a visa or with visa-on-arrival privileges.

At the top of the list, Singapore holds the title of the world’s most powerful passport, granting its citizens visa-free access to 193 destinations. In stark contrast, Afghanistan ranks lowest, with its citizens able to enter only 24 countries without a visa.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates global passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. While India’s rank has declined slightly, its passport remains relatively accessible in parts of Asia, Africa, and some island nations.

Experts suggest that such rankings are influenced by multiple factors, including international relations, visa agreements, and security policies. Still, the Indian passport continues to provide moderate global mobility, especially for tourism and business travel in developing regions.
