RCP Singh is a well-known figure in Bihar’s political landscape. Once regarded as a close aide of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Singh has now aligned himself with Prashant Kishor’s political team. His career spans from a distinguished administrative service to active politics.
Born in 1958 in Mustafapur village of Nalanda district, Singh began his academic journey at Patna Science College. He completed his graduation in History from Patna College and later pursued postgraduate studies in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University. In 1984, he cleared the Civil Services Examination and joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Singh was part of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. During Nitish Kumar’s tenure as a central minister, Singh served as his personal secretary. When Nitish became Bihar’s Chief Minister in 2005, Singh was appointed as his Principal Secretary. In 2010, Singh resigned from the IAS and ventured into politics, joining the Janata Dal (United). He went on to become a Rajya Sabha member and also held ministerial positions at the central government. However, in 2022, when JD(U) denied him a Rajya Sabha ticket, his association with the party weakened, leading him to join Prashant Kishor’s political outfit.
Singh’s family also boasts a strong administrative background. His daughters, Lipi Singh and Lata Singh, are notable names. Lipi Singh, a 2016-batch IPS officer, is recognized as a tough and efficient police officer in Bihar, earning the nickname “Lady Singham.” Lipi’s husband, Suharsh Bhagat, is also connected to Bihar’s administrative services.
RCP Singh’s journey reflects both his political influence and the administrative prowess within his family, marking a significant presence in Bihar’s governance and politics.
