As Bihar prepares for the 2025 Assembly Elections, deep divisions have surfaced within the Mahagathbandhan alliance. The Congress party has issued a strong warning to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), signaling that it may announce its own candidates starting October 13 if a consensus on seat sharing is not reached soon.
Sources indicate that Congress is demanding seats like Bisfi, Bihar Sharif, and Nirmali in exchange for giving up its weaker constituencies -- many of which currently belong to other allies. Meanwhile, RJD is pressing Congress to concede the Kahalgaon seat, a request Congress has firmly rejected.
Tensions are also high between RJD and the Left parties. RJD is seeking key seats such as Paliganj, Ghosi, and Tarari from CPI(ML), which in turn has staked claims on RJD-held constituencies like Imamganj. The CPI and CPM are also involved in seat negotiations, with unresolved demands over seats like Rupouli and Bachhwara.
Adding to the deadlock, a late-night meeting between VIP Party chief Mukesh Sahani and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav ended without agreement. Sahani is demanding no fewer than 20 seats, while RJD, Congress, and the Left are unwilling to offer more than 15.
With alliances under strain and time running out, Mahagathbandhan’s internal struggles could significantly impact its election prospects.
