Patna: As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, internal discord within the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) has intensified over seat-sharing. On Saturday, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) convened an emergency meeting led by party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav and senior leader Tejashwi Yadav.
The meeting was held shortly after a previously scheduled Grand Alliance discussion was unexpectedly postponed. Sources reveal the RJD’s primary agenda was to address mounting pressure from alliance partners regarding the number of seats each party will contest.
The spotlight is currently on Mukesh Sahni, leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), who has reportedly gone off the radar amid the negotiations. Sahni is said to have demanded 60 seats along with a declaration naming him as the Deputy Chief Ministerial candidate, a move that has triggered a stalemate in talks.
Meanwhile, with Rahul Gandhi returning to India, a crucial meeting with Tejashwi Yadav is anticipated in an effort to break the deadlock. Congress insiders suggest the party has provisionally agreed to project Tejashwi as the alliance’s face for the upcoming elections.
The outcome of these high-level discussions is expected to significantly shape the electoral roadmap for the Grand Alliance in Bihar.
