Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch has made a bold prediction about his long-standing T20I record. He believes that his highest individual score of 172 runs in T20 Internationals could soon be surpassed, possibly during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Finch set the record in 2018 against Zimbabwe in Harare, and it still stands among the top individual T20I scores. However, during an interaction with a fan on social media, Finch stated that not only his T20I record but also Rohit Sharma’s 264 in ODIs and Brian Lara’s 400* in Tests could eventually be broken.
When asked which record might fall first, Finch confidently pointed to his own. “There will be some great batting surfaces this World Cup, and the next generation brings a whole new level of power and skill,” Finch said. “I strongly believe my record will be broken.”
Currently 38, Finch is part of the commentary team for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. He also shared his thoughts on the upcoming India vs Australia ODI and T20I series, saying, “With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the lineup, the series will be exciting. But I think Australia might edge the ODI series 2-1.”
Finch’s statement has stirred interest across the cricketing world, as fans now await the next potential record-breaking performance.
