The legal challenges for Maulana Tauqeer Raza continue to escalate following the Bareilly violence incident. Police have now sought his remand in nine more cases, in addition to the existing case for which he is currently in judicial custody at Fatehgarh Central Jail. Authorities have stated that further questioning in these additional cases is essential, prompting the request for remand. The next hearing is scheduled for October 14.
Maulana Tauqeer Raza is accused of instigating unrest during the ‘I Love Muhammad’ controversy in Bareilly on September 26. On the night of the violence, ten FIRs were registered against him across three police stations, with his name listed as the prime accused in seven of these cases. Police investigations have revealed his significant involvement in all instances of violence, leading to the inclusion of his name in the remaining three FIRs as well.
Separately, the administration demolished an illegal wedding venue owned by Tauqeer’s close aide, Nafees. The operation involved the use of bulldozers, gas cutters, and other heavy tools over two days. The authorities have also decided to recover the expenses incurred during the demolition, including the salaries of 45 officials and staff involved, from Nafees.
This development highlights the stringent actions being taken by the administration against those involved in the Bareilly violence. As investigations deepen, Maulana Tauqeer Raza’s legal troubles appear to be mounting further.
