As the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 approach, speculation about the political debut of famed folk singer Maithili Thakur is gaining momentum. Recently, Maithili met with BJP’s election in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai, fueling rumors that she might contest on a BJP ticket from the Mithilanchal region.
The meeting also included Maithili’s father, Ramesh Thakur, and photos from the gathering have been widely circulated on social media, intensifying the conjecture. While official confirmation is still awaited, reports suggest she may contest from constituencies like Alinagar, Darbhanga, or Madhubani.
Political experts believe Maithili Thakur’s entry into politics could strengthen the NDA’s position in the Mithilanchal area. On her social media, Maithili described the meeting as an honor and expressed how interacting with visionary leaders from Bihar reinforced her commitment to service.
Born in 2000 in Benipatti, Madhubani district, Maithili hails from a musical family and rose to fame through reality shows like Rising Star. Her rendition of traditional folk songs such as “Chalu Bihar Ke Geet Gaave” earned her nationwide recognition. In 2023, she was named Bihar’s State Icon and the Cultural Ambassador of the Year in 2024.
During the Lok Sabha elections, she actively participated in voter awareness campaigns. Her increasing involvement suggests she may be preparing to take a significant step into politics in the near future.
