Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared a state-wide public holiday on October 7 to honor the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All government offices, schools, colleges, and other public institutions will remain closed for the day.
To celebrate the revered sage, the state government is organizing a series of cultural and spiritual programs across all 75 districts. Events will include Ramcharitmanas recitations, Akhand Ramayan, Sunderkand readings, devotional songs, and traditional performances centered around the teachings and legacy of Maharishi Valmiki.
State Minister for Tourism and Culture, Jayveer Singh, stated that under the CM's direction, a dedicated budget of ₹1 lakh per district has been allocated to support artists and program logistics. Each district will have a designated nodal officer to ensure smooth execution of the events.
The main celebration will take place at Lalapur in Chitrakoot, believed to be the meditation site of Maharishi Valmiki. Other prominent locations like Tulsidas Ashram in Rajapur, Valmiki Ashram in Bithoor (Kanpur), Shravasthi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj will also host grand commemorative events.
To encourage community involvement, local elected representatives are expected to actively participate in the events, highlighting inclusive public engagement as a key focus of the celebration.
