Patna, Bihar — As the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections approaches, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) is yet to finalize its seat-sharing arrangement. With less than 27 hours remaining for the nomination deadline, no party within the alliance has released an official candidate list.
Sources reveal that the RJD, Congress, and Left parties have internally distributed party symbols to likely candidates but have refrained from making any public announcements. A conflict has already surfaced on the Bachhwara seat, where both the CPI and Congress have reportedly issued symbols to different candidates—leading to a dual claim over the constituency.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Sahani, the leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), is also said to be upset over the number of seats and the specific constituencies offered to his party. In another blow to the alliance, IP Gupta has officially exited from the coalition.
On the other hand, the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) is moving ahead with full force. So far, the BJP-JDU-led alliance has declared candidates for 229 seats, putting them significantly ahead in terms of organizational preparedness.
BJP and JDU leaders are conducting intensive meetings with grassroots workers to energize their campaign. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched NDA's election campaign in Bihar today with his first public rally. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to arrive in Patna shortly to bolster the NDA’s momentum.
This widening gap in readiness between the two alliances is already becoming a talking point among voters and political observers. As the election clock ticks down, the Mahagathbandhan's indecision could prove costly.
