Beijing/Islamabad/Kabul – Amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, China has stepped in, urging both nations to show restraint and pursue lasting peace in the region. Although the two sides have agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, the situation on the ground remains volatile.

During a routine press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China is willing to play a constructive role in supporting regional stability.

“Pakistan and Afghanistan are both close, irreplaceable neighbors. China supports resolving differences through dialogue and cooperation,” he said.

Lin emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and called for long-term solutions that promote peace and stability across the region. He also affirmed that China is committed to strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.

China welcomed the ceasefire as a positive first step and encouraged both sides to engage in sincere dialogue to resolve their disputes peacefully.

Meanwhile, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed on social media that the ceasefire has been enacted. The United Nations also issued a call on Thursday, urging both Pakistan and Afghanistan to end hostilities permanently and protect civilians.

Recent border clashes have led to dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, marking one of the most serious flare-ups since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. Hostilities along the border have intensified since October 10, with both sides accusing each other of initiating armed provocations.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the international community is closely watching how this fragile ceasefire will unfold—and whether it can pave the way toward a more stable and peaceful future in the region.
