Residents of Kairana in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district are in deep shock following a tragic family incident. A 38-year-old laborer, Salman, from the Khail Kala locality, reportedly ended his life along with his four children by jumping into the Yamuna River on Friday afternoon. The heartbreaking act is believed to have stemmed from domestic turmoil, alleged infidelity, and ongoing harassment from his wife’s family.
Before the tragedy, Salman recorded three emotional videos on his mobile phone and sent them to his sister. In the videos, he blamed his wife and her alleged partner for driving him to despair, saying that for the last seven months his life had turned into hell and that he found no support from authorities or law.
According to reports, around noon on Friday, Salman took his 12-year-old daughter Mehak, 5-year-old Shifa, 3-year-old Ayaan, and his eight-month-old daughter Inayasha to the old Yamuna Bridge. There, he recorded his final video and jumped into the river along with his children.
His sister, Gulista, shared that Salman had left home with the children earlier in the day. Later, when she received the videos, the family was initially confused about their meaning until locals reported that a man had jumped into the river with four children. Police, along with PAC and professional divers, immediately reached the scene to begin rescue operations.
Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar confirmed that an extensive search operation is still underway to locate the bodies.
Neighbors described Salman as a simple and hardworking man who had been facing increasing family conflict over the past several months. The alleged extramarital affair of his wife had reportedly deepened tensions within the household, pushing him into severe mental distress.
This tragic event has left the town of Kairana in mourning. Locals are demanding strict legal action against those responsible and urging for greater awareness about the importance of mental health support and communication in resolving family disputes.
The incident serves as a grim reminder that suicide is never a solution — open dialogue, counseling, and legal aid are always better paths to healing and justice.
