Washington, D.C. / New Delhi / Kabul – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy by stating he stopped eight wars during his tenure but was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Speaking at a recent public event, Trump called this omission a "painful" injustice, expressing frustration over the lack of recognition.
In the same speech, Trump claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him that India would soon cease purchasing oil from Russia. He described Modi as "a great friend," emphasizing the strength of U.S.-India relations.
However, Indian officials responded cautiously, noting that India’s energy decisions are based solely on national interest and strategic priorities, without directly confirming or denying Trump’s assertion.
Elsewhere in South Asia, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, signaling a temporary pause in recent hostilities. Afghan sources reported that Pakistan had initiated the truce request, which Afghanistan accepted to reduce tensions.
Meanwhile, on the economic front, Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has arrived in India for a two-day official visit. He is expected to meet Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal for a ministerial-level trade review, focusing on expanding bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
These developments reflect the dynamic nature of global diplomacy, where strategic interests, partnerships, and political narratives continue to shape international relations.
