Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at the BRICS alliance, accusing the group of intentionally weakening the U.S. dollar. In a bold statement, Trump warned that any country joining BRICS in the future could face an additional 10% tariff on exports to the United States.

India swiftly responded, rejecting the allegations and emphasizing that BRICS is focused on strengthening global economic cooperation, not undermining any currency. Preparations are currently underway for the BRICS Summit 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Brazil this July.

BRICS — comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — has attracted interest from several countries seeking to join. The group’s expansion, however, has raised concerns in Washington, especially given the tense U.S. relations with Russia and Iran, both of whom have shown alignment with the bloc.

Trump, who has frequently criticized global trade practices, has previously accused China, India, and Brazil of pursuing policies that, in his view, disadvantage the American economy. His latest warning signals a potentially more protectionist stance if he returns to office, potentially affecting future trade dynamics.

With BRICS expanding its global influence and the U.S. maintaining a wary stance, Trump’s remarks have once again stirred discussions in diplomatic and economic circles about the future of international alliances and the balance of economic power.
