Ayodhya's 9th Deepotsav Creates History with 26 Lakh Diyas Lit
Ayodhya transformed into a radiant canvas of light and devotion as the city celebrated its 9th Deepotsav, marking a momentous chapter in its spiritual and cultural journey. The sacred ghats along the Saryu River were illuminated with over 28 lakh earthen lamps, while 26,17,215 diyas were lit simultaneously — earning a place in the Guinness World Records.
The record-setting event was meticulously verified by the Guinness team using drone technology to count the lamps. This milestone surpassed last year’s record of 25.12 lakh diyas, solidifying Ayodhya’s position on the world map of cultural festivals.
Highlights of the Celebration:
The central event was held at Ram Ki Paidi, featuring a breathtaking laser light show and aerial drone display that captivated both devotees and tourists.
The official Guinness certificate was handed over to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat.
Nearly 33,000 volunteers, including university students and community groups, worked tirelessly over weeks to prepare for the event, from organizing oil and wicks to aligning diyas on all 56 ghats.
A Vision of Treta Yuga Reimagined
With temples draped in flowers and streets lit up in golden hues, Ayodhya was reminiscent of the ancient Treta Yuga — the era when Lord Ram returned to his birthplace after 14 years of exile. The city, buzzing with chants of “Jai Shri Ram,” welcomed visitors from across India and abroad.
The 9th Deepotsav not only set a world record but also reaffirmed Ayodhya’s emergence as a major spiritual and cultural hub under the vision of the Uttar Pradesh government.
