CBI Arrests DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in Major Bribery Case; Crores in Assets Seized
In a high-profile corruption crackdown, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar following a bribery complaint filed by Akash Batta, a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh. Bhullar allegedly demanded ₹8 lakh to stall legal action in a case.
The DIG was detained along with a middleman named Krishnu, a resident of Nabha. Following their arrest in Mohali, both were presented before a CBI Special Court in Chandigarh, which remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody.
Massive Haul in Raids Across Punjab and Chandigarh
CBI raids conducted at various properties linked to Bhullar have uncovered a staggering amount of unaccounted wealth and luxury assets. The detailed seizures include:
From Bhullar's Chandigarh Residence:
₹7.5 crore in cash
2.5 kg of gold jewellery
26 high-end watches from Rolex and Rado
Over 50 property documents, some in suspected benami names
Multiple bank accounts and locker keys
4 firearms and 100 live rounds
From Bhullar's Samrala Farmhouse:
108 bottles of premium liquor
₹5.7 lakh in cash
17 live bullets
From the Middleman's Residence:
₹21 lakh in cash
Suspicious documents and evidence of illegal dealings
Investigation Underway, More Revelations Expected
CBI sources suggest the recovered assets point to a lifestyle of luxury and possible misuse of power by the DIG. The seized documents and evidence are under detailed forensic scrutiny, and officials expect more disclosures in the coming days.
This operation underscores the CBI’s intensified efforts to root out corruption within law enforcement ranks, setting a serious precedent for accountability at high levels of administration.
