According to the weather office, low-pressure systems forming over western Jharkhand, southern Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Chhattisgarh are expected to move towards northeastern Bihar within the next 12 hours. A cyclone named ‘Shakti’ is currently moving westward at about 18 kilometers per hour in the northeastern Arabian Sea, heading towards the western central Arabian Sea. This system is anticipated to cause heavy rainfall in Bihar and neighboring areas over the coming days.
In the last 24 hours, districts including Patna, Rohtas, Saran, and Siwan have experienced heavy downpours. As a result, schools remain closed, and significant waterlogging has been reported in cities such as Chapra. Agricultural fields in Rohtas have suffered extensive damage due to the floods. The weather department has extended heavy rain warnings up to October 6.
Patna witnessed overcast skies and intermittent light rain on the morning of October 5. Continuous rain throughout the day led to waterlogging in various parts of the city, while cooler temperatures provided some relief from the humid heat.
The Bihar government, along with local authorities, is strengthening disaster management efforts. Relief operations have been accelerated, and teams are actively distributing essential supplies to affected areas. Citizens are urged to stay in safe locations and avoid unnecessary travel during this critical period.
While the heavy rainfall poses a serious challenge to the population, the administration’s proactive measures and timely advisories are aimed at minimizing damage and ensuring public safety.
