In a unique diplomatic gesture, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer extended Diwali wishes in Hindi during his recent visit to Mumbai, where he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
Starmer began his public address by greeting the Indian people in Hindi for Diwali, saying, "Diwali ki hardik shubhkamnayein." He also expressed deep grief over the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, offering condolences to the victims and their families.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, PM Starmer emphasized the strengthening of UK-India relations, especially in the fields of technology and security. He highlighted key areas of collaboration, including Artificial Intelligence, advanced communications, and defence technologies.
“This is a significant meeting taking place in Mumbai, the financial capital of India,” Starmer noted. He congratulated Prime Minister Modi for India's projected rise as the world’s third-largest economy by 2028.
Starmer also praised India's youth, stating, “By 2047, Indian youth will play a vital role in shaping the global future.” The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, aiming to build a technologically advanced and secure future together.
