New Delhi — India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has once again raised concerns over the outdated structure of the United Nations, asserting that the global body represents the world of 1945, not 2025. Speaking at the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries Conference (UNTCC 2025), he stressed the urgent need for institutional reforms to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.

“Today’s United Nations does not mirror today’s world. Its current structure limits its effectiveness,” Jaishankar said, addressing military leaders from UN peacekeeping nations. He emphasized that India’s approach to peacekeeping is deeply rooted in its civilizational values and guided by the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – the world is one family.

He praised the role of UN peacekeepers, calling them the real guardians of peace, and acknowledged their contribution in restoring hope in conflict zones for nearly eight decades.

Jaishankar underlined that global cooperation must rest on justice and inclusivity, and that power dynamics have drastically shifted in recent decades. “Institutions like the UN must evolve if they are to remain relevant in a changing world,” he said, pointing out that an inclusive and fair international system is essential for global peace and stability.

India, one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, continues to advocate for reforming the UN Security Council and other core institutions to ensure greater representation of developing nations.
