Nawada, Bihar — Despite a statewide ban on alcohol, liquor smuggling in Bihar continues to thrive—often in bizarre and unexpected ways. In a recent case from Nawada district, police discovered 29 bottles of English liquor hidden inside a household toilet tank.

The unusual bust took place in the Teli Tola Par locality under Bundelkhand police station. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house suspected of running an illegal liquor operation. During the search, officers were stunned to find a fully packed septic tank used as a hiding spot for the alcohol.

Station in-charge Dhanveer Kumar confirmed the seizure and said that the liquor was deliberately concealed to avoid detection during surprise raids. The accused, identified as Bikki Kumar, was arrested on-site. Along with the alcohol, police recovered ₹5,850 in cash and a scooter, which is believed to have been used for local delivery of the contraband.

Although Bihar has had a complete prohibition on alcohol since 2016, the state continues to see innovative methods of smuggling and storage by liquor mafias. From false ceilings to milk cans—and now toilet tanks—offenders keep changing tactics to dodge law enforcement.

Authorities have launched a further investigation to identify other members involved in this local smuggling network. Police believe that the operation may be part of a larger syndicate active across the district.

The latest incident serves as a reminder of the growing challenges in enforcing prohibition, especially when criminal networks continue to adapt faster than enforcement strategies.
